Charles Reith, PhD
Owner, Rieth Energy

Charles Reith provides expertise to Louisiana Clean Tech Network not just in renewable energy but in innovative waste and water management technologies and strategies.

He comes to the Network from the Alliance for Affordable Energy (www.all4energy.org), where he served as Executive Director in 2003/2004 and continues to provide advisory services.

His professional consulting practice Reith Energy (www.reithenergy.com) includes a variety of technical and management activities, including:

  1. development of renewable energy plans in the mining sector
  2. carbon management planning for universities and federal installations
  3. low impact development for storm water in the DC area and New Orleans
  4. international training on environmental policy and technology

Besides maintaining a vigorous private practice, Dr. Reith teaches courses and performs research at major universities. He was a clinical professor at Tulane for 13 years, where he taught courses in energy and environmental policy and technology.

He wrote more than $500,000 in successful grant proposals at both Tulane and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette -- where he chaired the Department of Renewable Resources -- to fund research in industrial ecology, curtailment of non-point source water pollution, and improved management of industrial and animal wastes. This work was published in journals such as Journal of Environmental Managmeent, Industrial Ecology, Corporate Environmental Responsibility and Urban Land.

He currently teaches global management of climate change at George Mason University. Dr. Reith has a PhD in ecology from the University of New Mexico.
