THE INSTRUCTOR

Tim Coats, NABCEP Certified Solar Thermal Installer, Senior Solar Trainer and Solar Thermal Design Engineer.

Tim is both an instructor and consultant for ONTILITY, LA CleanTech's training partner. After completing the renewable energy program at Solar Energy International, Tim worked for Energy Conservation Services as their lead solar thermal and PV installer. Tim has designed and led both residential and large-scale, commercial solar and wind power and solar thermal projects. Prior to ONTILITY, Tim held various lead roles for Renewable Energy Systems where he specialized in deploying large-scale wind power projects. In addition to providing NABCEP-approved training in solar installation, Tim is a New Orleans resident.

THE COURSE

The ISPQ Accredited and NABCEP board approved five day class will include three days of interactive classroom instruction and two days of hands-on-training and students will participate in the installation of Solar Hot Water Systems and learn practical installation techniques.

Included in the classroom study are subjects such as how solar collectors are constructed and their performance, the SRCC rating system, component selection and an in depth view of five types of solar systems. Mounting collectors to roofs, sealing roof penetrations, wiring controls and other installation tips will be addressed in the hands on portion of the training. Training materials and lectures are based on the Uniform Solar Energy Code and the NABCEP Solar Thermal Task Analysis.

These class hours will count toward the 40 hours of training required achieve the NABCEP Solar Thermal Installer certification.
